About Mel Davis
Mel Davis is a self-taught artist. He is a compassionate “digital dreamer with a fervent spirit for creating treasured moments that showcase the power of inner strength and the beauty of the human spirit.
Mel’s inventive spirit was birthed through his strong faith in God and love for his family. His mother was a beacon of inspiration raising him to pursue his dreams at all costs, which is interlaced throughout his professional achievements.
Mel credits his artistic inspiration to a host of artist and close friends including Annie Lee, Charles Bibbs, and Clyde Ross.
Pinnacle Piece
One of his pinnacle pieces was a tribute to the late Prince. He was privileged to design a piece that Prince actually signed off on after it was shared by a mutual friend.
The piece is a rendition of an existing image of Prince and is worthy of Mel’s graphic charm!
When asked how he was able to produce such a compelling piece, Mel simply replied, “I saw Prince as a ‘free and sovereign’ artist. I respected his talent and what he stood for and represented. I was very excited to know that he appreciated my talent and for him to give me his blessing, it was the greatest feeling ever.”
“I felt like I was closer to my destiny as an artist. He was a colorful person in artistry and performance, so creating images about him in this media was not hard at all”, he concluded.
Artful Connections
Mel is very active in his community and has enjoyed recognition from local and national celebrities including Actor and Entrepreneur Tabatha Brown, NBA Player Chris Clemons, and Mayor Keith Summey, who purchased one of his pieces.
Mel started Art 4 Life to share his love of art with kids and the community. While it began on a small scale, the non-profit has shared art supplies with kids, donated computers and school supplies to children and adults in the community, as well as volunteer at festivals and senior centers.
During Unity in the Community, hosted by Jerry Smith and sponsored by 103.9 The Light Radio in remembrance of 9-11, Mellow Arts provides crafts for children to encourage their creativity and joy through finger-painting, drawing, and coloring.

Mel’s dream is to open a gallery with classrooms to educate and encourage young minds concerning the world of art. His belief and philosophy is that we should be able to construct a platform for young creative minds to prepare them for entrepreneurship, leadership and independence.
